Adonijah Seeks David’s Throne

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith was exalting himself, saying, “I will be king,” so he prepared for himself a chariot and horsemen and fifty men running before him. His father did not rebuke him at any time[a] by saying, “Why did you do so?” Now he was also very handsome of appearance; she had borne him after Absalom.[b] He conferred[c] with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they supported Adonijah.[d]
